Doors, hinges, and locks

We fix doors that stick, drag, or will not latch

A bedroom door that rubs the frame on the way shut. A closet door hanging crooked. A loose handle, or a deadbolt you want replaced.

Every one of those is door repair. Most of it lives at the hinges and the strike plate: screws get set into solid framing, hinges reset, the plate moved until the latch drops in on its own. A slab swollen out of square gets planed and painted back, new handles and deadbolts go on the same job, and anything past a repair gets replaced.

Why a door starts sticking

A door that binds or misses its latch is nearly always one of three things: loose hinges, a strike plate out of line, or the slab swollen out of square. Summers in the Temecula Valley push them out; they pull back in when the weather turns. Most of the time the answer is an adjustment, not a new door.

What it takes to get a door closing again

The same run covers a bedroom door that drags and a front door that will not lock.

Step 1

Find what is actually binding

We work the door open and shut and read the gap around it. A rub mark, a screw backed out of a hinge, or a latch sitting high tells us what is off.

Step 2

Reset the hinges, line up the strike

Loose hinge screws come out and longer ones go in, deep enough to catch framing. Hinges get shimmed or reset, and the strike plate moves until the latch drops in cleanly.

Step 3

Fit the hardware and test every door

New handles, knobs, and deadbolts go on and the old ones come off. Then we work everything we quoted, open and shut, until each one catches.

No two doors cost the same

Moving a strike plate and hanging a new interior door are not the same work, so there is no flat rate. Text photos and we send back one number, free.

The five things that move the price

  • 1How many doors and locks are on the list
  • 2Repair or replace, since a new door is a bigger job
  • 3The hardware, whether you bought it or we pick it up
  • 4Interior or exterior, since outside doors carry weather
  • 5Paint after, if a new slab or planed edge needs it
Straight talk

Some doors are past fixing

A core broken up inside, a bottom rail chewed by a dog, a slab that took on water and stayed swollen: none of those come back with an adjustment, and we say so rather than charge you to find out. What we price then is a new interior door, hung in the frame you have and painted to match your trim.

Add whatever else needs fixing

If the doors are not the only thing waiting, say so when you text. It all gets priced together and comes back as one number.

My door will not latch. Is that a big job?

Usually not. A door that will not latch is most often a hinge worked loose or a strike plate sitting out of line, and both are adjustments rather than replacements. Send a photo of the latch and the strike plate and we will tell you which it looks like.

Do you replace interior doors?

Yes. When a door is split, water swollen, or chewed at the bottom, an adjustment will not hold and a new interior door is the answer. We hang the new one, fit the handle and latch, and paint it to match your trim.

Do I buy the lock, or do you?

Both are fine. If you have already picked out a deadbolt or a handle set, we fit what you bought. If you would rather not shop, tell us the finish you want and we pick one up, and the hardware cost is in the quote.

How much does door repair cost?

Door repair is priced by the job, not by the hour, so one number covers the work. The price follows how many doors and locks are on the list, whether each is a repair or a replacement, and who supplies the hardware. Text photos and we send the price back free.

Can you do every door in the house at once?

Yes. Send a photo of each door that needs work and we quote them together as one job rather than one at a time. If something else is waiting, put it in the same text and it gets priced with the doors.

Which cities do you cover for door repair?

We cover Temecula, Murrieta, Menifee, Lake Elsinore, Wildomar, Winchester, and French Valley for door repair and lock replacement. There is no travel charge inside the service area, so a door in Winchester is quoted the same way as a door in Murrieta.
